The American
Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is the nation's largest
nonpartisan individual membership organization of state
legislators who share a common commitment to the Jeffersonian
principles of individual liberty, limited government and free
markets. ALEC's Civil Justice Task Force and Disorder in the
Court Project have been at the forefront of the efforts to
restore fairness and predictability to the civil justice system.
The Task Force has worked diligently to promote systematic
fairness in the courts through bills to discourage frivolous
lawsuits, to fairly balance judicial and legislative authority,
to end regulation through litigation and to treat defendants in
a consistent manner.
